How to Calculate Stainless Steel Pipe Weight

The weight of a stainless steel pipe is calculated using the formula: Weight (kg) = (OD - WT) × WT × 0.02466 × Length (m) × Density Factor. The density factor is the ratio of the material density to carbon steel density (7.85 g/cm³). For SS304 and SS316 with a density of 8.00 g/cm³, the density factor is 1.0191.

SS304 Pipe Weight Per Meter

SS304 stainless steel pipe weight per meter depends on the outer diameter and wall thickness. For example, a 2-inch Schedule 40 (NPS 2, OD 60.3mm, WT 3.91mm) SS304 pipe weighs approximately 5.44 kg per meter. Use our calculator above for instant results for any SS304 pipe size.

SS316 Sheet Weight Calculation

SS316 sheet weight is calculated as: Length (m) × Width (m) × Thickness (mm) × Density (8.00 kg/dm³). A standard 2500×1250mm SS316 sheet of 3mm thickness weighs approximately 75 kg. SS316L has the same density as SS316.

Inconel 625 Weight Calculator

Inconel 625 (UNS N06625) has a density of 8.44 g/cm³, which is about 5.5% heavier than SS304. When calculating Inconel 625 pipe or sheet weight, always use the correct density factor to avoid material costing errors. Our calculator handles this automatically for all nickel alloy grades including Inconel 600, 718, Monel 400, and Hastelloy C276.

Duplex 2205 Weight Per Meter

Duplex 2205 (UNS S31803) has a density of 7.80 g/cm³, which is actually 2.5% lighter than SS304. This means duplex pipes weigh less per meter than equivalent SS316 pipes, which can be a cost advantage in large-diameter piping projects for refineries and desalination plants.
