⚗️ Mechanical Test Results QW-150

Lab test results that prove weld integrity. All values entered will appear in PQR PDF.

📏 Tensile Test PASS

QW-152: Reduced section tensile, failure must occur in base metal at ≥ specified UTS

SpecimenWidth (mm)Thickness (mm)Area (mm²)Max Load (kN)UTS (MPa)Failure Location
TS-1
TS-2

✓ Both specimens exceed minimum 515 MPa (SS316L). Failures in base metal indicates weld is stronger than base material.

🌀 Bend Test PASS

QW-160: 2 face bend + 2 root bend (or 4 side bend if T ≥ 10mm), 180° around mandrel

🔨 Hardness Survey PASS

Vickers HV10. Max 350 HV for SS, 320 HV for sour service per NACE MR0175

🔋 Charpy V-Notch Impact PASS

3 specimens each at weld metal & HAZ. Min energy depends on grade & temp.

📊 Pass-by-Pass Welding Sequence QW-409 detail

Each weld pass with current, voltage, speed, and calculated heat input. This is what auditors check.

Cap

Heat Input formula: HI = (Volts × Amps × 60) / (Speed × 1000) kJ/mm. Multi-pass keeps each pass below interpass limit.

🎯 Step-by-Step Welding Procedure

1Material Preparation: Clean joint surface 25mm each side with stainless steel brush, acetone wipe. Remove all oil, grease, mill scale.
2Joint Fit-up: Set root gap as specified. Tack weld at 3, 6, 9, 12 o'clock positions. Tack length max 25mm, height max 3mm.
3Backing Gas: Purge backing gas (Argon) until O₂ < 50 ppm before starting root pass.
4Root Pass (GTAW): Use 2.4mm filler. Maintain stable arc, no oxidation. Inspect each tack point fusion.
5Inter-pass Cleaning: Wire brush + grind any defects. Check temperature < 150°C before next pass.
6Fill Passes: Stringer or weave as per WPS. Stay within heat input range. NO weaving for duplex/Inconel.
7Cap Pass: Slightly wider, smooth finish. No undercut > 0.5mm.
8Visual Inspection: Per AWS D1.1 / ASME B31.3. No cracks, undercuts, porosity exceeding limits.
9NDT Tests: Per code — typically 100% RT or UT for pressure piping. PT for surface check.
10PWHT (if applicable): Slow heating 50-100°C/hr, soak time 1hr per 25mm, controlled cooling.
